I was reading about Thunderstorms and how they affected Max (a dog in a blog called Mad Max Rants) and then I ran across this video on how to deal with the health and welfare of your pets, especially cats and dogs, during fourth of July (in the US ) and Canada Day (in Canada obviously) fireworks celebrations.
Dogs hear about ten times as well as humans and cats hear twice as well as dogs. So you can imagine what the sound of fireworks sounds like to cats and dogs. To protect their hearing, sanity and overall pet wellness, follow the simple but effective steps outlined in this video from Better TV.
I know that there are many differing views on this. My Mom used to have Golden Retrievers and she would take them out with her wherever there were loud noises so the dogs would get used to them. She explained they were working dogs and needed to be?accustomed?to loud noises (like gunshots) to perform their retrieving duties.
Let?s face it Mom, not all dogs are working dogs and even those that are, are not necessarily exposed to gunshots. ?I will?definitely?follow the suggestions in this video. My cat and dogs are just house pets and don?t need to be exposed to frightening sounds.
