According to a September Dimensional Research survey of IT professionals, 80% reported that employees used smart phones for work, and (just to make CFOs?feel secure) 64% said they weren?t ?confident that they know of all the personal devices being used? for work in the office. Let me repeat that: Almost two-thirds of the IT leaders simply don?t know what their users are using. What this means for CFOs is that data security and network security become increasingly critical risks to manage, as noted in a recent IDG mobility survey. For one thing, it?s a lot easier to lose a phone or a tablet than a PC. Kensington, a computing accessory provider, has just come out with a sort of bike chain for tablets, and a ?wireless leash? for smart phones that alerts the user if he wanders too far from his phone. (For example, if he leaves it on the seat of a taxi.)
