Curt Malawsky, former co-coach of the Burnaby Jr. Lakers who helped guide tim to Minto Cup victories in 2004 and 2005, has been named head coach and assistant general manager of the Calgary Roughnecks of the National Lacrosse League.
Malawsky added another Minto championship in 2010 with the Coquitlam Jr. Adanacs. He also played for the senior Adanacs as well the Roughnecks.
He had previously been an associate coach and assistant GM for the Roughnecks.
"Curt has won at all levels as a player and as a coach and we believe, as one of the bright young minds in the game, Curt is the right coach to lead the Roughnecks," said general manager Mike Board in a press release. "He has a rich knowledge of the league and will continue, in his role as assistant general manager, to be involved in player personnel decisions as we move forward in building a championship team."
Malawsky takes over for Dave Pym whose contract was not renewed despite leading the squad to the playoffs the last three years, including finishing first in the Western Conference with a 12-4 record this year. They were eliminated in the first round by the Edmonton Rush.
